Governing Body

Seven elected community members, serving four-year terms, comprise the Board of Education. These trustees serve on a voluntary basis and hold monthly public meetings at 7:00 PM in the Board Room, 14910 Aldine Westfield Road. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month unless there are conflicts with other important dates.

Administration

Superintendent Dr. Wanda Bamberg leads the administrative team of Deputy Superintendent Dr. Archie Blanson; assistant superintendents Priscilla Ridgway, Gloria Cavazos, Dr. Keith Clark, Jonathan Hantke, Ken Knippel, and Ben Wilson; area superintendents Todd Davis, Patricia Leon-Wade, Ann-Marie Hazzan, and Dr. Rosalinda Rodríguez.

Aldine welcomed 62,055 students and was the 11th largest school district in Texas (as of Oct. 31, 2008).

Guidance / Partnerships

Each elementary, intermediate, and secondary school has at least one guidance counselor. Aldine ISD has also established partnerships with local businesses and colleges to develop programs that encourage success for high school graduates entering college, technical school, or the 21st century work place. Magnet Schools

Aldine ISD’s Magnet School program has 21 academies with various themes.

IB Schools

Aldine ISD is one of a select number of Texas school districts approved by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, to offer curriculum under the prestigious IB designation. The IB Diploma Programme is offered at one high school, and an elementary campus is the site of the IB Primary Years Programme.

Child Nutrition

Annually, 750 child nutrition employees provide 3.3 million breakfasts and 8.7 million lunches. Since 2001-02, Aldine ISD’s child nutrition department has earned the state’s Standards of Excellence Award for an exemplary child nutrition program.

Recognition

Aldine ISD ranks among the state’s high performing school districts according to data from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The district has earned seven Recognized ratings since1996, won the 2009 Broad Prize for Urban Education, was one of five 2004, 2005, and 2008 National Finalists for the Broad Prize for Urban Education, won the Texas Quality Award in 2006, and won the 2008 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award. Aldine is also the second best large school district in Texas for educating African American students and is ranked third among large school districts in Texas in educating Latino students, according to studies conducted by Texas A&M University, Texas A&M University-Prairie View, and Beloit College.

AISD’s school board was one of 24 school boards across the nation, and the only one in Texas, to receive the coveted Magna Award in 1999 from the American School Board Journal. The board was also named the 1998 Outstanding School Board of Texas by the Texas Association of School Administrators.
